Development of demonstrators for the metroSNAP

At the CES 2020 in Las Vegas, the Swiss company Rinspeed AG presented the metroSNAP, a mobility system in which the chassis and superstructures can operate separately.

metroSNAP was designed for the size of a Renault Twizy in terms of chassis and body and should be used as a carrier for the last mile. In combination with a passenger cabin, however, people can also be transported. "Skateboards" (chassis) and "Pods" (structures) are only short-term partners. Many pods use the skateboards that are currently available. The skateboard is designed as a level 5 autonomous vehicle. An electric motor is used to drive the skateboard. The energy is stored by a lithium-ion battery, which should enable a range of around 95 kilometers and a top speed of 75 km / h.

In the first step, metroSNAP focuses on B2B use cases, such as a mobile parcel box or a food express, which e.g. could be placed in front of larger companies. The following hypothesis is conceivable: In the future, a fleet of metroSNAPs (operated by parcel services, retailers, etc.) will provide customers at selected locations in the city area with even more convenient access to everyday necessities.

At CES 2020, ESG Mobility GmbH demonstrated its expertise in the area of “Connectivity” on the basis of two demonstrators developed for the trade fair, with both a web-based portal, the operator tool suite, and a native app, the ordering app for end customers, developed by the ESG Mobility subsidiary ServiceXpert Gesellschaft für Service-Informationssysteme mbH.

The following skills are imparted with the development of the demonstrators:

  • Development of mobile apps, UX / UI
  • Machine learning for intelligent pooling of customer needs and determination of the ideal metroSNAP locations
  • Connectivity in the form of features / services for operators
  • ESG Mobility as overall integrator

ServiceXpert was commissioned by ESG Mobility to develop the two demonstrators. The machine learning functions were developed by ESG Mobility themselves and integrated by ServiceXpert into the operator tool suite.

ServiceXpert, an ESG-Group company, employs over 85 staff in Hamburg and Munich. ServiceXpert is a Europe-wide operating system and software house with a focused service portfolio for Lifecycle management of EE information for leading manufacturers of commercial vehicle and their supplier industry.
