Technological upgrade of a technical editing system

ServiceXpert optimised the group's own technical communication system for an international supplier of warehouse technology.

Due to many commonalities in the processes of creating technical documentation, a group-wide editorial system was introduced in the customer group in 2004. The aim of introducing the system was the efficient creation and management of XML-based technical documentation with optimal support for reuse and translation management as well as the efficient support of the entire business process defined for technical documentation, starting with the creation of text components to the final publication of the documentation.

For almost 15 years, technical documentation has been created in the six source languages at this customer's international production sites based on this editorial system. Based on the source documents in the source languages, all documentation objects are first translated into English (pivot language) and then into 30 target languages. The translation process is based on an almost fully automated workflow for new translations, change translations, as well as a correction workflow for incorrect translations.

As a consulting and executing system integrator, ServiceXpert is significantly involved in the further development and support of the technical communication system and is the central coordination and communication point for system administration, system operation, 2nd and 3rd level support and key user support.

In 2021, the XML editor for creating and publishing technical documentation and the basic software for managing the documentation modules were upgraded to the latest technological status and migrated. Since the beginning of 2022, the system upgrade has been in productive use and offers the approx. 50 authors worldwide new and improved features for creating technical documentation.
